Resources
Parents and Carers
As parents you probably have a wealth of information already at your fingertips. However from experience I need reminders and at times to know I am not the first to suffer these issues and won't be the last. It is our hope that as the popularity of this site grows so will the resource list; from websites, social media addresses, websites and blogs. One resource that has been created by ourselves and supported by Open Nest is a 'My Story' introduction book about your child which can be found on the resources page. One source of support and advice we have found to be invaluable is @TheOpenNest and @AdoptionSocial both on Twitter. If you have any resources you would like to share please email and they will be reviewed and added. Although please be patient as this site is maintained in spare time between parenting therapeutically and working. |
Schools
An adoptive child can pose difficult questions in school as the child that presents as compliant in school can behave very differently at home. We have had to deal with these issues both professionally and as adoptive parents. It is our hope that the resources placed on this site will share evidence and research into the issues, but training is the only way that you can begin to understand the issues fully. From our discussions via social media we have not found any adoptive parent that wouldn't support a school that seeks training into attachment, adoption awareness or early childhood trauma and how it impacts on education. On the resource page you will find links to companies and trainers that can offer support and advice but also your SLA may also already cover some training in this area. In addition your VSH or local adoption/fostering agencies should also be able to advise about training opportunities. Pupil Premium Plus is also a contentious and confusing area and links can also be found that will offer advice on its spending. Garreth Marr offers his insight and experience into pupil premium however if you have any resources you would like to share please email and they will be reviewed and added. Although please be patient as this site is maintained in spare time between parenting therapeutically and working. |
